About Northern Colorado Science Consulting

Northern Colorado Science Consulting is a Fort Collins–based scientific and technical consulting practice focused on helping organizations work through difficult R&D, analytical, instrumentation, and process-development problems.

Our approach combines rigorous scientific reasoning with practical laboratory and technical experience. We help clients make sense of complex data, troubleshoot experiments and equipment, evaluate technical options, and determine useful next steps when the path forward is not obvious.

The practice is led by two PhD chemists whose experience spans laboratory research, analytical science, instrumentation, process development, scientific computing, automation, technical operations, and R&D leadership. That breadth allows us to approach problems from multiple perspectives rather than treating every challenge as a narrow single-discipline question.

Evidence Before Assumptions

We distinguish what the data support from what is suspected, assumed, or still uncertain.

Practical Scientific Thinking

Recommendations should be technically sound, but they also need to work within real-world constraints.

Clear Communication

We explain conclusions, limitations, and next steps in a way that clients can actually use.

What We Bring to the Work

Deep Technical Experience

Useful Technical Communication

Independent Scientific Analysis

Hands-On Problem Solving

Our work draws on experience across chemistry, analytical science, instrumentation, process development, experimental design, scientific computing, automation, and R&D operations. That breadth helps us examine technical problems from more than one perspective.

Our goal is not simply to produce analysis, but to make that analysis usable. We explain conclusions, limitations, supporting evidence, and practical next steps clearly enough to support technical and business decisions.

We evaluate data, methods, assumptions, and competing explanations on their technical merits. When the available evidence does not support a firm conclusion, we identify the uncertainty rather than forcing an answer.

We understand that laboratory and process problems rarely exist only on paper. We consider the practical realities of instrumentation, experimental workflows, equipment, materials, time, and available resources when developing recommendations.

Meet the Scientists Behind the Practice

David Boston, PhD

R&D Leadership • Process Development • Instrumentation • Scientific Computing

Dr. Boston is an inorganic chemist and R&D leader whose experience spans chemical research, process development, analytical chemistry, scientific instrumentation, laboratory automation, computational chemistry, and technical operations. He earned his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington, where his research focused on ruthenium-based photochemical systems for carbon dioxide reduction.

His industrial work has combined hands-on research with development and operation of complex R&D systems, including reaction and separation development, analytical methods, instrumentation troubleshooting, reactor design and automation, scientific computing, and technical documentation. He has also led laboratory operations, trained scientists, supported external research collaborations, and developed practical solutions to equipment and workflow challenges. David brings a systems-level perspective that connects fundamental chemistry, experimental data, instrumentation, and process considerations to help move technical problems toward workable solutions.

Indrani Bhowmick, PhD

Materials Analysis • Chemistry• Scientific Instrumentation • Data Analysis

Dr. Bhowmick is a inorganic and materials chemist whose experience spans materials characterization, spectroscopy, coordination chemistry, molecular magnetism, scientific instrumentation, and analytical research support. Her research background includes transition-metal complexes, functional materials, chemical sensing, and the interpretation of complex spectroscopic and materials-analysis data.

Her professional work combines fundamental chemistry with hands-on analytical instrumentation and support for researchers working across diverse scientific disciplines. She has experience with spectroscopy and materials-analysis techniques including UV-Vis spectroscopy, fluorescence, and dynamic light scattering, as well as instrument training, experimental troubleshooting, and helping researchers select and apply appropriate analytical methods. Indrani brings a measurement-focused perspective to Northern Colorado Science Consulting, emphasizing careful experimental design, reliable characterization, sound interpretation of data, and a clear understanding of the limitations and uncertainty associated with scientific measurements.
